'FFXIV' beta will be starting soon,Square Enix has confirmed that the Final Fantasy XIV beta will begin soon.
Producer Hiromichi Tanaka said that the test phase for the massively-multiplayer game "will be starting soon" and that a 2010 release should be met.
"We will do some final adjustments from the beta test and then we will have a launch in 2010," he told Eurogamer.
He added that the publisher will be "trying hard" for a simultaneous launch on both PC and PS3, and that it does not fear World Of Warcraft's dominance of the genre.
"The reason why many MMOs failed after WOW launched was probably because they were trying to copy WOW," Hiromichi explained.
"For FFXIV we're not trying to copy World of Warcraft, we're trying to choose something different. Final Fantasy never had any influence from World of Warcraft, so we want to continue that and try to reach a different audience."
